Day 1 - 710 Miles
I was hoping the rain would hold off long enough for me to hook up my rig and get on the road but Nooooooooo. It started raining right when I opened the garage door. Oh well. Anyways off we went enjoying the dampness, about the time we got to Truckee it finally dried up and has been really nice weather since. The road through Nevada is mostly flat and uneventful, a few rest stops here and the gas station stop every 200 miles or so. Interesting note is that in Nevada and Utah they sell 85 octane fuel as regular, 87 as mid grade and 91 as premium instead of the 87 - 89 and 91 I'm use to in CA.
I will have to ask someone about that.
We made it into Utah around 4pm and with the time zone change lost an hour so it instantly became 5pm. Just on the other side of the Nevada / Utah boarder is the Salt Flats, had to stop and take a few pictures.
The salt is pretty wet right now, almost like a wet cement consistency. Its hard in some areas and some people tried their luck. When we were getting ready to leave a tow truck was getting ready to go out and retrieve someone that lost track of the hard salt. We stayed on the road and watched.
So we wrapped up today with 710 Miles under our belt making it to Salt lake City Utah. Tomorrow we will be heading towards South Dakota with not much to do but put another 5 or 6 hundred miles behind us.
Time for Bed.
